Carson Falls, Fairfax, Marin County, CA
New Year, New Resolutions. This year, my resolutions include having fun, enjoy life, doing things I want to do, going to places I want to go, of course within reasonable boundaries. First weekend of the new year, January 6, the weather is still quite cold, so going south where it is warmer sounds like a good plan. The destination? Carson Falls, Mountain Tamalpais, in Fairfax, Marin County.
Since most people start the new year with a resolution of getting fit, exercising a bit more, it seems quite a good deal when combining hiking with the beautiful gift of nature. Living in CA for almost 20 years, but I really did not know anything about CA. The places to go to are abundance. The places I have been to area so limited. The fact that there are at least a dozen of beautiful waterfalls within a 4 hour drive radius, and I know nothing about it. For an amateur, the hike to Carson Falls is a good one to start with since the difficult level is moderate, yet the view seems to be spectacular, at least according to the pictures and the comments by those who have been there.
So I was excited to joined my friend on this trip. We have it all planned out: a sleep over on Friday night and an early departure on Saturday. But you can't quite have a girls' night without doing something fun. So despite the fact that the weather was in the 30s (Fahrenheit), after dinner, three of us headed to Leatherby's creamery to have some ice cream. Ordered two big banana split sundaes, since it seems a little cheap and funny for three of us to share just one, we had more than we can handled. The hot tea prior to ice cream to help counter the coldness of the ice cream (according to my friend's creative thinking) did not help us to eat all of the ice cream (probably a good half a gallon of ice cream - vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, coffee- on top of bananas, topped with whipped cream, hot fudge, pineapple sauce, and strawberry sauce. After about 90 minutes or so of eating and talking, we made it home at about 10:30 p.m. But the night did not end just yet. Two more hours of talking, laughing, screaming (not gonna tell you what we did), we made it to bed after midnight.
Whether it was the excitement or just simply because we were too used to our routine, we were up at around 5 a.m. Breakfast? checked. Packing? checked. Shortly after 7 a.m., we hit the road. Carson Falls, ready or not, here we come...........

Re: Carson Falls, Fairfax, Marin County, CA
We got to Mt. Tamalpais a little after 9 a.m. and were a little concerned when the ranger's office was closed due to budget cut. We sorted of know that Carson Falls was around this area, but did not know exactly which hiking trail would lead us to the falls. The free map at the park did not even show Carson Falls. Given there were at least two dozen hiking trails around here, each several miles long, we could not just guess.
We asked several bicyclists and joggers in the areas, and finally got the directions we much needed. It turned out that the falls is actually a bit further up, and we were told that the ride up there is a very beautiful drive. True to their words, the ride up there is indeed beautiful with the ocean on our left. Unlike a typical cold winter day in January, the sky was as blue as it could possibly be. Under the warm sunrays, it seemed like a spring day. Inspired by the beautiful view and beautiful weather, we lowered the top of the convertible driving up the winding road, totally disregarded the curious looks and smiles of the passerby bicyclists and stopped along the road long enough to take pictures and to be amazed by nature.

Trên đường đi, khoảng chừng 10 phút từ trail đến Carson Falls
Bên trái của đường đến Carson Falls: North Pacific Ocean
Most of the pictures of this trip are taken by my friend BK. BK is our unofficial photographer for most of the events and BK's pictures always turn out great.

The trail...
Alpine Lake
The trail as you go further, narrow and stêep at some part with lots of trêes, yet flat and wide open with hardly any trêe at other part...

Reaching the destination, we were a little disappointed...
There was not enough rain, so the falls is rather....dry....But regardless, the view around there is amazing. A great place to hang out and have lunch or picnic, especially romantic for couples...

Trèo núi ngắm thác không thành, nên bọn tôi dắt nhau xuống biển ngắm hoàng hôn...
It's amazing how fast the sun set...
Mặt trời vừa lặn bóng, mặt trăng vội vã lơ lững trên đồi...

The destination is great...but what make it greater are the people you are with and the things you share with them...
The trio being unleashed...
Qua cầu gió bay...
Không biết biển tháng giêng có lạnh không ta...
Trèo cây...
Đường lên dốc đá...
Chơi bấp bênh, ai nặng hơn ai...
So you think you can jump...

Thanks L3.
